Assault terminators

This unit has been WIP for quite some time. It was modelled with 5th edition of the Warhammer 40,000 rules in mind. Right now, I would probably get some lightning claws in there, as Thunderhammer/ Stormshield are only I1. Nevertheless, the games I played so far screamed for Assault Termies in a land raider.

With that in mind I got painting. The land raider will take some more time to finish. I don't really enjoy painting vehicles so while I have the basecoat down, I can't get myself to painting the details just yet. Right now it is strictly 3 colours up.

The terminators, on the other hand, are finished. They're a little crisp, but I am quite pleased with how they turned out. Especially the chapter icons combined with scripture and company markings.

Orc Shaman

Some more work done on my O&G army. Just a quick break from painting Space Marines. This model is awaesome. I think this one is my favourite. GW is making this Finecast, but I still have the old  model. I probably get it again and do some conversions to it. But for now, I will continue expanding my Space Marine army.

Scouts, devastators and Terminators

Lately, I have been making an effort to clear up my backlog and finally get a chance to enjoy a game with a fully painted army. So I put together some of the last models I had laying around. So this is a blog update with a bunch of different models.

How to magnetise a Space Marine Predator Tank

Although there are quite a few tutorials for Predator magnetisation, I decided to post this anyway. This is a tutorial for magnetising a Space Marine Predator tank, to hold all variants both destructor and annihilator as well as a rhino.

This is a list of the magnets I ordered:
20 pcs, diam. 3 mm, thick.1 mm
20 pcs, diam. 3 mm, thick.3 mm
20 pcs, diam. 5 mm, thick.2 mm
10 pcs, diam. 10 mm, thick.1 mm
(convert to inches at your convenience)

I just assembled the sides and added the tracks. That's all I glued together. Then I superglued the 10mm/1mm magnets on the sponson doors interior.

(Can't stress enough how important it is to check the polarization on the magnets before glueing them. And be careful with the superglue, I already got a magnet glued to my finger, and this glue is VERY strong. Hurt like hell, when I yanked it off.)

Then I magnetized the sponson doors, quite straightforward, using more 10mm/1mm magnets.

The rhino doors are not inset, like the sponsons, so you need an extension to get the magnet closer to the one on the inside of the pred. I just cut up some sprue and glued a 3mm/1mm magnet on. It holds fine.

I wanted the guns to be swappable, so I had to find a way to magnetize them as well. I decided to leave the guns in 2 parts and use the pull of the magnet to fix them together. I cut up a base and used the piece to give the magnet a bit more reach. I used the 3mm/3mm and it fitted perfectly. (I left the lascannon for later. Cause I forsee a bit more work there. Will of course update with pics.) I did glue the camera to the ...uhm... stick-thingy that connects to the gun, but it is still free to rotate.

Then I started on the turret weapons. I simply cut of the pegs on both weapons and drilled holes to hold the magnets. The 3mm/1mm magnets fit perfectly in the holes where the pegs normally go.

The auto cannon tends to dip so I decided to add another magnet in the back of the gun. I had to use some GS to get a magnet on the right spot. (I know the green blob looks a bit messy, I wasn't patient enough so I had to fix it later on.)

You'll notice that I used the same method as on the rhino door to get the magnet closer to its counterpart on the hull, a bit of sprue.

The inside looks like this:

I use more bits of sprue to fit the magnet. The magnets do not touch, but still have a strong hold.

I already added more sprue to the hull to place the lids on. Next up is the rhino roof-plate and the lascannons. Will post pictures when I have em.

This is it so far:

Space Marine Scout Snipers

Just the two from the 5 I have in total. These were just lying around unfinished. It feels good to get some stuff done from my backlog. Still long ways to go. I still have a squad of hammernators with landraider, some more marines and a devastator squad that need some lovin'.With the coming of 6th, I will be getting myself some Imperial Guard allies, as well. Yeah, more painting to come.

Space Marine Chaplain

I have been working on this model for some time. It is a Finecast model but in this case, more a Miscast. I tried filing, filling, cutting and bending. This model just wasn't cast properly, but stubbornly I started my work on him anyway. All in all, the model is awesome, it's just this cast that sucked. You'll notice that the scrolls are all blank. This was a nice try at painting black power armour, which is a first for me. I still find it difficult to get the grey exactly right,  but pratice makes perfect so I'll keep at it. (As the model is sub-par, so is the photography)

Night Goblin unit finished!

It took quite some time to do, but my first NG unit is finished. I still have a ton of figures to do. I'll do them in batches of 25. For now this is done. It was fun, but I'm glad it's done. 40k 6th edition is calling me, so I'll focus some more on that. Always nice to take a little break. Still there are a lot of models that need to be painted.

The models in this unit are all painted in batches of 2 or 3. This way I ensured that all of them have the same level of detail, but a slightly different skin tone.
